The Bead People
A small story with room for big conversations
Kids notice differences early: who looks different, talks differently, sits alone at lunch. This free experience gives your class a simple, creative way to talk about it together.
Read the story
The Wind of a Thousand Years is a short read-aloud that works well for a single class period or a homeschool afternoon.
Make something together
A hands-on creative activity lets students put their hands to work while the ideas from the story settle in.
Talk about it
Gentle prompts help students talk about difference, kindness, and what it means to belong, in their own words.

It started on a piece of notebook paper
The Bead People began with beads, imagination, and one simple idea about how we might treat one another. Since 2007, more than 16,000 Bead People have traveled to 42 countries, carrying a simple message:
In our differences is our strength.
The Bead People Manifesto
โWe, The Bead People of Planet Earth, agree to take care of each other, Mother Earth and all of her creatures and to never harm another because he or she is different from me.โ
Classrooms, homeschool groups, libraries, and scout troops have read the story, made Bead People together, and added their own to the count. Your class is warmly invited to join them.
Bring The Bead People to your classroom
The story and activity are free. Read it, make something together, and see what your students have to say about where they belong.
